Override a setup for an event or session

How Apex's three-tier setup inheritance works, and how to override individual settings for one event or one session without changing your original setup.

In Apex a setup cascades through three layers: the track default, then any event override, then any session override. Each layer can change individual fields while inheriting the rest from the layer above. This lets you tweak the kart for a wet event or a single qualifying run without touching your saved baseline setup. You make these changes on the event detail page (sidebar → Events) and the session detail page (sidebar → Sessions).

What you need

  • A track default setup assigned (so there's a baseline to inherit from).
  • The event or session you want to adjust.

How the three tiers work

  1. Track default — the setup assigned to the track (or your home-track default).
  2. Event override — change any fields for one event; the rest are inherited from the track default.
  3. Session override — change any fields for one session; the rest are inherited from the event, then the track default.

A field left to inherit takes its value from the layer above. A field you set explicitly is overridden for that level only.

Steps (event override)

  1. In the sidebar, select Events and open the event.
  2. Find the event's Kart Configuration card.
  3. Change any fields you need — each section shows how many fields you've overridden.
  4. Save the event.

Steps (session override)

  1. In the sidebar, select Sessions and open the session.
  2. Find the session's Kart Configuration card.
  3. Change any fields you need.
  4. Save the session.

What you'll see

Each section header shows an override count (for example "Front End · 2 overrides"). A Reset to Baseline (events) or Reset to inherited (sessions) control clears your overrides and returns those fields to the inherited values.

Tips

  • Only the fields you change are overridden; everything else automatically follows the layer above.
  • Changing the chosen setup on a session is destructive — Apex asks you to confirm because it clears that session's overrides.
  • Use overrides for one-off conditions (a wet meeting, a soft-tyre run) and keep your saved setup as the clean baseline.

Frequently asked questions

Does overriding change my saved setup? No. Overrides apply only to that event or session; your original setup is untouched.

What does "inherit" mean? The field takes its value from the layer above — the track default for an event, or the event (then track default) for a session — until you set it explicitly.

How do I undo my overrides? Use Reset to Baseline (event) or Reset to inherited (session) to clear them and fall back to the inherited values.

Why did Apex warn me when I changed the setup on a session? Switching the chosen setup clears that session's overrides, so Apex confirms first to avoid losing your adjustments.
