Rename a session or change its type

How to give a session a clearer name and set the correct session type (Practice, Test, Qualifying or Race) in Apex.

When you upload telemetry, Apex names the session automatically. You can rename it to something memorable and correct its type at any time, either from the session's detail page. You reach a session from the Sessions list (sidebar → Sessions).

What you need

  • A session already in Apex.

Rename a session

  1. In the sidebar, select Sessions and open the session.
  2. Select the session name at the top of the page (it's editable in place).
  3. Type the new name.
  4. Save the change.

Change the session type

  1. On the session's detail page, select the session type badge near the top.
  2. Choose the correct type: Practice, Test, Qualifying or Race.

What you'll see

The new name appears immediately as the page title and in the Sessions list. The session-type badge updates to your chosen type and is used by filters and comparisons.

Tips

  • Clear names (for example "Saturday AM practice") make sessions much easier to find later.
  • The session type drives the type filter on the Sessions list and the colour of the type badge.
  • You can also rename a session inline from the Sessions list without opening it.

Frequently asked questions

What session types are available? Four: Practice, Test, Qualifying and Race.

Will renaming a session change its data? No — renaming only changes the label. Your laps, telemetry and times are untouched.

Why does my session have an auto-generated name? Apex names sessions from the uploaded file's details. Rename it whenever you like to something clearer.

Does the session type affect anything? It's used by the Sessions list filter and the type badge, and it helps you compare like sessions together.
